Welcome Address by the Governor of Saint Petersburg Alexander Beglov

Dear Friends!

I am glad to welcome participants and visitors of the XVIII Annual Strategic Planning Leaders Forum of the Regions and Cities of Russia!

In two decades, the Forum has become a platform for providing new approaches to development of the regions of Russia. Its suggestions and recommendations are widely requested by State system, as well as municipal systems of the Russian Federation.

Here in St. Petersburg since the first years of its establishment the most innovative economic, cultural and educational concepts have been translated into action. Even now our scientific minds are pushing the boundaries of urban strategic planning technologies and its applications. In particular, before the elaboration of new urban planning documentation is launched, it is drafted and consulted in conformity with the housing plan, road and energy infrastructure, social facilities. We will proceed with the development of a draft of joined territorial planning schemes of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region next year.

The city of St. Petersburg is ready to share its good-practice cases and is particularly interested in information that allows for benchmarking, or relative comparison of performance in this area.
